Alexia Simmons (instructor/owner)
Alexia is above all a passionate devotee and practitioner of Joseph Pilates’ classical exercise system. Her decade of experience repeatedly has proven that the “newer” gimmicks and supposed improvements come and go – but that only Joe’s brilliant, methodical doctrine yields consistent results.
After taking a few lessons, she knew it was her calling and left her corporate confines for the Pilates Center at Drago’s Gymnasium in New York City. After 600 hours of formal study and rigorous practice, she was certified at The Pilates Studio of New York (now known as True Pilates or Romana’s Pilates).
Her practice is known for its attention to every detail, impeccable professionalism, warmth, and just the right amount of helping clients push themselves beyond what they may have thought possible. She has gained a respect and recognition in the NYC, Westchester and Connecticut area, where she has cultivated a devoted following and many fast friendships. She has recently been an educational director of a NYC-based Pilates teacher training program, where she revised the syllabus and established guest workshops with notable Pilates figures. Her expertise has been recognized as far away as California, where she is an adjunct lead teacher trainer at Core Arts Pilates.
She maintains regular attendance of seminars that feature renowned industry masters, specialized Pilates education, physiology and anatomy courses, and national conferences. She lives in Manhattan and has been part of the UES community for 15 years.
